  1. Meals on Wheels Meal Sealant Machines, Meal Packaging and Meal Delivery.

  3. How Meals are Delivered. A recent survey of Meals on Wheels identified that meals are delivered in a number of ways: • Compartmentalised recyclable trays; • plates; • foil trays. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland require that products are wrapped to ensure no contamination of food during storage and transport. • Ref: Food safety legislation Regulation no. 852/2004

  4. Meal Packaging • According to The National Guideline IS340 ‘Hygiene in the Catering Sector’, Compartmentalised meal packaging is the safest and most hygienic way in which to provide meals in the community.

  5. Meal Packaging Companies There are a number of food packaging companies in Munster and Ireland that provide compartmentalised food trays suitable for MOWs; Some of these include: • Zeus Packaging- Little island-Cork • Tekspek Solutions- Waterford • Silverstream Packaging ltd- Little island • Pack works ltd- Co Roscommon. • Hebre Packaging ltd- Wilton (not oven proof)

  6. Compartmentalised Food Trays • Benefits: 1. Paper-based food trays insulate the meals keeping it hot for longer than foil or plastic; 2. Each compartment can be separately sealed preventing foods from mixing or sauces/gravy from over-flowing; 3. The transportation of the meal does not disturb the original presentation of the meal. 4. Filled trays can be refrigerated, frozen, microwaved or reheated in a conventional oven.
