  4. THE EMERALD ISLE • Ireland is mainly an English-speaking country. It lies on the same parallel as Novosibirsk, but it is not cold in winter and it rains very often. This is because it is the first land to meet the warm waters of the Gulf Stream. • Ireland is often called the Emerald Isle because of its beautiful green hills and fields.There is an old Irish saying that Ireland must be the cleanest place in the world because rain washes it every day.

  5. The national symbol of Ireland The national symbol of Ireland is shamrock, a clover with three leaves. Irish people believe that it brings good luck.

  6. St. Patrick‘s Day On March 17, the Irish people commemorate St. Patrick. They take part in the St. Patrick's parade. Millions of real shamrocks are used for decorations. Everything turns green on St. Patrick's Day. People wear something green, and shops prepare green food: green bread, green ice cream. Irish songs can be heard on the radio.

  7. Music Irish people love music. Pipes, flutes, violins are traditional Irish instruments. There are many famous bands and pop stars from Ireland, like Westlife, Boyzone. The most successful Irish band ever is U2.

  8. Ireland has lots of traditional folk dances.The Irish jig started in the 15th century. It is a lively dance to bagpipe or violin music. The most popular Irish dance is the Riverdance. In this dance you can not move your arms. The Irish national sport is hurling. Players have to hit balls into the goals with sticks called “hurleys”. Dance, Sport

  9. Famous places The Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland has 37000 columns of rock. People say that a giant was in love with a female giant who lived on a nearby island. He built the causeway so that he could walk across the water to meet her.
