  1. Green or What ! Clifton Primary School Clitheroe Rd Lytham St Annes Lancs FY8 3PY 01253 727664 Please look at the following slides to see how green we are.

  2. All the things we do…….. Recycling We have a whole school approach to recycling and with assistant from Fylde Borough Council we can now recycle paper, plastics, glass and cans. We also compost all the kitchen waste and old fruit. Even the Hoover waste goes in the bins. Composting

  3. Energy Watch We have a team of children going round making sure the lights are all turned off at break and lunchtimes. The staff are very good now as they don’t want to be caught. Water Watch Teams go round making sure all the taps are turned off properly Regularly children from Year1 go and check the litter and pick it up if necessary. They are not asked to do this but volunteer.

  4. We encourage the children to learn about the environment locally and globally. We have wildlife areas around the school and the children feed the birds and use the areas as an outside classroom. Bog Garden Wildlife area at the front of the school.

  5. During our eco week we worked hard at making the school grounds more environmentally friendly by planting trees , shrubs, plants and bulbs. Every child in the school and local nursery planted something.

  6. We also encourage the children to learn about sources of their food and we have a Do It All Club that makes environmental issues fun. We do a lot of growing and we have an allotment for the first time this year.

  7. Our Allotment.

  8. With our work on the environment we want the children to learn ways of looking after it. One way is to ride our bikes

  9. We have also been looking into our carbon footprint and are slowly improving the building to be energy saving. We are turning to environmentally friendly cleaning products and even recycle the waste green towels which are used with gay abandon. As well as looking at all local issues, we want the children to be aware even with all projects we are doing, there is more to do, not just by us, but globally.

  10. We are working on topics like Climate Change, Fairtrade, Children's Rights, Water problems, Food miles, Rain Forests and Farming

  11. We have links with groups in and around Lancashire. We have frequent visits to and from the RSPB, WRAP, the recycle team from Fylde Council. YPTE, and are on the FLOWE committee. With our work we have gained ECO schools status of Bronze and Silver (applying for Green Flag) and have recently been awarded an Learning Excellence Award. All in all the children enjoy learning about all these issues. They are the adults of the future. They need to know!
