Chapter 4 – Keystone Exams • Graduation Requirement • Class of 2016-17: current tenthgraders • Proficient or higher (Currently: ELA, Algebra 1, Biology) • Unlimited retakes • Supplemental instruction after each unsuccessful attempt • Exam or PBA • Accountability • Federal – ‘NCLB’ waiver • State – part of School Performance Profile Joseph A. Chapter 4 – Keystone PBA • Alternative for Graduation Requirement ONLY • After two (or more) unsuccessful attempts of Exam • IEP Student (IEP Trumps All) • Team determines when student moves to project • Could move to PBA after one unsuccessful attempt • May work on project and retake exam • One PBA per Module Joseph A. Keystone PBA • Test – not a creative project • One ‘project’ per module • Complete a project for each non-proficient module • Assesses same Eligible Content at the same DOK levels • Computer administered in a secure setting • Log on required; good for 1 hour • Monitored Joseph A. Roles in PBA • Student • may retake the Keystone exam at anytime while working on PBA (Online) • Must complete the project according to the timeline provided • Schedule and timeline for completion set by Building Administrator and guided by PDE procedures. • Must submit the completed project to his/her tutor for submission to regional review panel. Roles in PBA • Monitor/Test Administrator • Ensures the student is scheduled for the correct PBA. • Logs in student to online site and ensures security measure. • Ensures the student has completed all activities with the timeframe and schedule. • Notifies tutor if any content difficulties are recognized. Roles in PBA • Tutor • Must be certified in the content area he/she is tutoring • Responsible for checking student work at various checkpoints in the PBA for accuracy. • Provides supplemental instruction on Assessment Anchors and Eligible Content on areas of student need identified by the student, monitor, and/or tutor. • Tutor may not provide instruction on specific problems of the PBA activities. • Tutor permits the continuation of the PBA activities after a check point has been completed. • After the PBA is completed and reviewed and is deemed to have met the criteria for submission, tutor forwards the PBA to the site administrator for submission.   10. Roles in PBA • School Site Administrator • Responsible for scheduling and implementation of the PBA’s. • District Level Administrator • Role does not require administrative certification. A teacher or guidance counselor may fill the role of the PBA District Level Administrator • Responsible for assigning site administrators and final submission of PBA.   11. The Project is a Test • Students can only work on the project at school. This includes any student in cyber school or a student who is homeschooled. • Students must have a monitor (Test Administrator) to sign them into the website and remain present while they work on the project. • The monitor can be an aide (Employed by the LEA, but does not need to be certified) • Tutors are assigned to each student and should be certified in the content area. The Project is a Test (Continued) • Tutors cannot actually help students with the content of the project. • Tutors can point students toward practice problems in the eligible content and provide some remediation based on student need in a particular area. • The tutor must review the project at set checkpoints and “sign off” on the project before it is sent to the state for scoring.
