Ten historical facts • In 1880, US-China treaty allows US to restrict immigration of Chinese labor. • In 1880 the New York Daily Graphic prints the first halftone newspaper photograph. • In 1881 Booker T. Washington becomes first president of Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. • In 1883 Brooklyn Bridge, is hailed as the 8th wonder of the world, opens. • In 1884 Mark Twain publishes The Adventures of Huckleberry Film. • In 1884 smokeless powder was brought to US from France. • In 1885 Thomas Edison invents the first ever movie in Menlo Park, New Jersey. • In 1885 Washington is dedicated in the nation’s capitol. • In 1888 a bow camera, the first Kodak, is introduced for use by amateur photographers. • 50,000 settlers swarm into Oklahoma to homestead former Indian lands.

  3. Best and worst of 1880 • Widespread resentment against immigrant Chinese laborers in the Chinese Exclusion Act, suspending Chinese immigration for 10 whole years! • P.T. Barnum’s famous elephant, Jumbo, is killed in a train collision. • Statue of Liberty, a gift to the United States from France, is unveiled to the New York City harbor. • The US and Canada substitute standardized time zones for local time to make it easier to coordinate railroad schedules.

  6. Fashion of children In the picture it shows a girl dress and a girl coat from front and side. In the picture it shows a boys every day sailor costume for boys 7 to 8 years old and a girls dress.

When USA was aided or involved in war In Korea a naval force was sent ashore to protect American residents in Seoul during unsettled political conditions, when an outbreak of the populace was expected. In Hawaiian Islands US forces protected American interests at Honolulu during a revolution. In Samoa US forces were landed to protect citizens and the consulate during a native civil war.

Inventions • In 1888, Marvin Stone patented the spiral winding process to manufacture the first ever paper drinking straws. • In the late 1880’s peanut butter was invented by St. Louis and it all started with one of his ill patients. • Credit cards made their first appearance in 1888 in Edward Bellamy’s Looking Backward. • Ready mixed paints invented.

  9. 2 individuals that influenced the decade 1880 Joseph was one of those individuals that influenced this decade in 1880 he created Listerine and that helped teeth get whiter. Another individual is Bill Cody that created the Wild West Show which eventually became famous around the US.
