  4. Uses of Talc • Talc is used as a filler in many products because of its ability to not react with chemicals and also doesn’t hurt the skin. • Talc is used in antacids for stomach and indigestion problems because of high resistance of acids and chemicals in the stomach. 6. Talc Mining • Talc is normally mined via open pit mining (Surface mining). • Surface mining has downsides to: topography(study of Earth’s shape and features), vegetation, and water resources. The effects to these categories have made open pit mining controversial. Photo credit to:chamotte.com "Open-Pit Mining." Oracle ThinkQuest Library. 7. More to mining • After the mining is done, large pits are left in the Earth and have been often used as land fills. • Exposure to Sludge from sewage can cause workers to become ill. • Mountain top removal removes all vegetation, which is essential for tress that absorb most water. • Flash floods and land slides are extremely dangerous when working in surface mining.
