Folk tale • A folk tale is a story based on the traditions of a people or region, told by parents to children and then by the children to their children.
Examples of folk tales • Paul Bunyan • Billy Goats Gruff • Three Little Pigs • Brer Rabbit • Headless Horseman • Johnny Appleseed
Strategy • Evaluate -You should evaluate a text by identifying the reason the author has written it.
Author’s Purpose • PIE!!!! • P- persuade • I- inform • E- entertain
Interfere (verb) • to take part in the affairs of others when not asked
Guardian (noun) • someone or something who watches over or protects
Agile (adj) • able to move and react quickly and easily
Tottered (verb) • walked or moved with unsteady steps
Awkward (adj) • without grace in movement or behavior
Proclaimed (verb) • announced publicly
Story Words • inhibiting- slowing down or holding back • coiled- moved in a circling or twisting way • mesquite- a shrub with thorns that grows in the southwestern United States • yucca- a warm climate plant with long leaves, strong stems, and white flowers • ruckus- a lot of noise and activity
