Faculty Senate Report Sept 19, 2013 Resolution Whereas Professor Balakrishnan has served the Missouri University of Science and Technology Faculty Senate since 2011 as President-Elect, and President; Whereas, as an Officer of the Faculty Senate, Professor Balakrishnan has demonstrated consistent good humor, hard work, considered judgment, thoughtfulness and dedication to shared governance in these positions; Whereas, Professor Balakrishnan's leadership skills have helped the Faculty Senate and the campus succeed through strategic planning; Whereas, Professor Balakrishnan has maintained a friendly, collegial and consistently positive attitude at all times; Be it resolved that the Faculty Senate of the Missouri University of Science and Technology does hereby sincerely thank Professor Balakrishnan for every job well done and wish him continued success in his future endeavors. Adopted this 19th day of September, 2013, at the meeting of the Missouri University of Science and Technology Faculty Senate.

Faculty Senate Report September 19, 2013 • Intercampus Faculty Council: NR, will meet next week • Board of Curators meeting: • $4.3 billion net assets (our retirement, endowments) remains healthy, 5.3% growth last year. • Promoting intellectual property, let companies own patents. S&T noted as good model, adopted last year. • $22.1 million in new strategic planning funds • + $48.5 million match (of which $25 million reallocated) • Will ask State for $1.2 million towards new Experimental Mine Building

Faculty Senate Report September 19, 2013 • UM System ($ in millions): • + $2,246 revenue (including: • $791 tuition -199 scholarships (net = 592; 25% discount) • 870 patient medical services • 184 federal grants & contracts • + 401 state • + 241 “net nonoperating revenues” • -$2,727 expenses (about half is salary & wages) • =$ 218 to ‘assets’ (e.g. retirement) • Other System: • IT security measures (e.g. change password regularly) are coming, someday • FAS vendors presented

Faculty Senate Report September 19, 2013 • Approved revised Mission Statement: • Missouri University of Science and TechnologyS&Tintegrates education, and research and application to create and convey knowledge that serves our state and helps solve the • world’s great challenges. to solve problems for our State and the technological world. • “Consistent with the decision of the Board of Curators to extend benefit eligibility to Sponsored Adult Dependents, this employee benefit is being extended to encompass Sponsored Adult Dependents. The effective date for this amendment is January 1, 2014.”
