  3. Write, Sketch, and draw your notes • OneNote is an app from Microsoft that can help streamline the note-taking process. • Notes should include drawings, images, doodles, and sketches. Chapter 13

Note taking: a lifelong skill • Note taking is not limited to the classroom. • Note taking occurs in the boardrooms of every business. • Lawyers take notes when they meet with clients. • Doctors and nurses record note of patient visits. • Scientists record their observations (field notes). • Government agencies take detailed notes of every official meeting. • You need to take notes from things you read, hear, or observe. • Note taking is an essential skill. Create and name pages in a section. 4. Delete unwanted containers, pages, and sections. 5. Expand and shrink navigation and page areas. Chapter 13

  6. What is OneNote? • OneNote provides a single place to capture, organize, and search your notes, thoughts, and ideas. • A powerful note-taking tool. You can take notes in classes, in meetings, and as you brainstorm new ideas. • A powerful research tool. OneNoteallows you to collect information from the Internet, e-books, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or just about anywhere else you may find something useful. • A powerful notes search tool. You can create notes for years and years and search them with OneNote’s powerful keyword search tools. Chapter 13

How Onenote works • OneNote allows you to take notes with a keyboard, digital pen, or speech recognition tools. • You can add files and graphics from nearly any source. • Information in OneNote is organized in notebooks – you can keep one notebook or create separate notebooks for major topics. • Inside notebooks are section tabs. You can create as many sections as you need. • A section can have as many note-taking pages as you need. Chapter 13

  9. Containers • Containers let you write facts and ideas quickly before you forget what you’re trying to write down! • Move containers together by clicking and dragging them near one another. Chapter 13

Create, Delete, and Display Pages • To create a new page: Click the New Page down arrow and choose New Page from the drop-down list (or key Ctrl + N). • To delete a container: Right click on the container and select Delete from the list. • To remove a page: Right-click on the page tab and select Delete from the list.   13. Using Outlines and Drawing Tools for Note Taking • A vertical outline lists each concept underneath its main idea or heading. Chapter 13

  14. Adding Space and Data OneNotelets you add space in the middle of a note. To insert extra space in a note, use the Insert Space button on the toolbar. Chapter 13

  16. Changing The Appearance of Pages • OneNoteallows you to change the appearance of your pages. • You can change the font just as you would in Word. • You can highlight key portions of your notes. • You can use different section colors. • You can add rule lines. Chapter 13

  19. Handwritten Notes and Drawing Tools OneNote allows you to use digital ink to draw and sketch and to handwrite your notes. Chapter 13

  20. Creating Subpages for Drawings Subpages are used to avoid creating endlessly long pages for a single topic. A subpage can be added below a primary page. Chapter 13

  21. Translate Handwritten Notes To translate handwritten notes into keyed notes, select the Ink to Text button from the Draw tab’s Convert group. Chapter 13

  22. Downloading from the cloud to OneNote You can download pictures, graphics, charts, and data from the Web – simply drag selected items from a Web page to OneNote. Chapter 13
