  11. Using the online catalog – a quick review Look at the results and find a book you would like to check out. I’d like to check out this book.

  12. Is the book checked in or out? The online catalog shows a book’s availability (which is if the book is checked in or out) Look in the far right column The first number shows how many copies of the book are available for checkout. The second number tells how many copies of the book the library owns.

  13. Is the book checked in or out? Look at the following example: The first number shows that 1 book is available. The second number shows that the library owns 2 copies of this book. This means that 1copy is available for checkout.

  14. Is the book checked in or out? Look at the following example: The first number shows that 0 books are available. The second number shows that the library owns 1 copy of this book. Since zero copies are available, you cannot checkout the book.

  15. Is the book checked in or out? Look at these examples: • 1 of 1 means the library owns 1 copy and 1 is available (it is checked in.) • 0 of 3 means the library owns 3 copies and 0 are available (all are checked out.) • 2 of 3 means the library owns 3 copies and 2 are available (1 is checked out.) In summary, if the first number in the availability column is a zero, all copies are checked out and there is no need to look for the book on the shelf. Another book should be selected.
