New Member Orientation Get to know each other… Why we hold member orientation • Brief Intro: • Name (If not a new member - how long a member of the Club and Club leadership position, if applicable) • Spouse and family, as applicable • Occupation or former occupation • Why I joined/am considering Sertoma

New Member Orientation We hold orientations because… • We want to share our club’s history of service. • We want to encourage you to actively serve as a club member. • We want to answer your questions. • We want to help you answer the simple question – • “What is Sertoma?” Sertoma is the recognized service club for Speech, Hearing and Communication Disorders

New Member Orientation What is GleneagleSertoma Club? • A Diverse Membership that participates in Service Projects, Raises Funds for Local Charities and has FUN!! • Chartered June 13, 1986 - Monument Hill was parent club - Started with 43 members, Max 102 in mid 90’s, Now 84 • Part of South Colorado District (9 Clubs) (Continental Divide District has 9 Clubs) • Donates > $25,000 each year to needy • Volunteers > 4,500 hours service

New Member Orientation Club President – Bob Duckworth Welcome • Officers and Board of Directors elected in March and serve July 1st until the following June 30th • Presides at all club meetings and responsible for all club affairs • Official representative of the club • Supervises officers, directors and committees per board guidance • All Members serve on at least one committee of their choosing and urged to be and active volunteer

New Member Orientation Secretary – Jean Harris • Recording and Administrative Duties • - Normal minutes and correspondence for Board of Directors • - Coordinates with Sertoma International • - Member responsibilities to help the Secretary • - Advise of changes in address/phone, etc. • You can access and update changes with Sertoma International • - www.sertoma.org then click “Member Services” then “log In” • User name is your last name and first initial • Password is member number (membership card, roster, mailings)

New Member Orientation Treasurer – Jim Taylor General/Operating Fund Sponsorship Fund • Dues: Club $ 15.00 • District 2.25 • Region 1.00 • International 15.00 • Qtr Total $ 33.25 • Meals:plus $12.50/meal eaten • Administration: (Newsletter, Awards, Office Supplies, etc.) • Income from Fundraisers (Bed & Breakfast, Wine & Beer Tasting, Golf Tournament, etc.) • Contributions to Charities (HEARS, Scholarships, Scouts, Soap Box Derby, Serteens, Easter Seals, Sertoma Foundation, Leadership Conference, National Heritage Essay Contest and more.) Dues:

New Member Orientation VP Sponsorship – Gloria Milhoan • Sponsorship is the financial charity aspect of community service… • Speech, Hearing and Communication Disorders • - HEARS, PPCC Scholarship, Matching Grant, Sertoma Foundation • Others – Disability Services of Colorado, Service to Mankind, Serteens, Tri-Lakes Cares, Childrens’ Ark +++ • “Service activities” (previously discussed) are “sweat equity” investments in our community • Combined service and financial commitments – National Heritage, Soap Box Derby, Salvation Army.

New Member Orientation VP Membership – Dennis Eagan • Membership – “If you believe community service is important…how do you serve the community without involving the people?” • Community Awareness was important focus starting in 2005 (Door hanger campaign, sandwich sign, more publicity in Tribune, redesigned info sheet, King Soopers visibility before events) • Getting off to a good start – The reason behind the GEM Award • Becoming involved… Pick at least one committee to serve on. • - Attendance at meetings and service events • - Conferences and Conventions

  20. New Member Orientation Answering your questions Do we have social events anytime just for fun? What if I sign up for something but then can’t do it? If I need to get back to the office, is it OK to just leave the meeting? Explain the meal reservation thing. I’m not sure about what’s going on at the sign in table – the clipboards. the hours thing, the badge… Isn’t putting money in that “can thing” sort of like a lottery? Is that legal? I don’t believe in gambling.
