  1. Methods To Write Effective Meta-Descriptions That Will Boost Your Rankings When you have an online presence of your brand, you are sure to work hard behind it to increase its rankings. Since this is obvious, you want to increase organic rankings. One of the ways by which this can be achieved is by writing compelling meta-descriptions. However, most of you are not aware of what a meta description is and how it contributes to the increase in the rankings on your website. So, for building a good website, if you catch hold of any SEOservices in Delhi, make sure they use the meta description to acquire adequate traffic on the site. However, before we get into the methods of using meta-description, let us give you a clear idea about meta description. What is Meta Description? The HTML based tag that summarizes the contents of your page and the services or products you are offering to the customers in one or two short sentences is known as meta description. This description should be between 20 to 160 characters. It allows the visitors of your page to understand what your page consists of and if the information provided on your web page is relevant to them. You will find the meta description right below the URL and the title tag. In short, meta description gives the visitors a gist of the content provided in that URL or link. Since you do not get much space or too many characters to write a meta description, it has to be concise yet catchy and attractive enough to grab the attention of the users so that they visit the web page.

  2. Why is Meta Description important? Most of you are of the idea that only the title tag is of most importance. A title tag indeed is what viewers pay attention to. But a meta-description sustains a customer or a viewer to a page and makes it clear to him what the page deals with and whether it will help him with the information he is looking for. In the study conducted by Ahrefs, it was inferred that 37% of the meta-descriptions were written in original form from Google's search results, and the remaining 63% were rewritten. Therefore, Google will find its own tags and extract meta tags without your intervention if you ignore the meta tags. Also, if you want to get visibility in social media platforms like Twitter, use meta-description as it puts a few lines to show the reader about the information that the web page contains. How To Write Meta Tags effectively to gain traffic? Previously, meta descriptions were supposed to be filled in with keywords. However, due to excessive spamming and keyword stuffing, Google now focuses on the uniqueness and the quality of content written in the meta descriptions. Here is a stepwise guide that can help you to write a compelling meta description: 1.Actionable Meta Descriptions The meta description that you write should be effective enough to motivate users to act to it. In short, the meta-descriptions should be written in a persuasive tone that will push the viewers to click on the web page link. In addition, it is better to write the meta-description in active voice than in passive voice. The active voice makes the user find out the primary purpose of the sentence. 2.Adding call-to-action in meta-description Call-to-action or CTA is a clickable and direct link that allows your users to lead them to a page that gives them something of value in return. Let us take an example here. You will notice that meta-descriptions with phrases like 'sign-up now' or 'free trial' or 'take a free test' are sure to get more clicks than those devoid of CTA. 3.Avoid duplicating One thing that should be vehemently avoided is copying a meta-description that already exists. If you do not want to destroy the trust of your customers, avoid writing or copying, or duplicating meta-description as it may question your credibility. 4.Concise use of keywords Before 2010, the primary concern behind writing compelling meta-description was to add keywords so that they don't look forced or keyword stuffing does not occur. However, after 2010, now the focus for meta-descriptions has shifted to writing quality and original meta- descriptions. Therefore, while most of you will add keywords in the title tag, you should avoid them from the meta-description.

  3. 5.Keeping it short and simple There is a limit for meta-description characters. In the case of smartphones, a meta- description should not exceed 120 characters, while for desktops, the number of characters should not be more than 160 characters. If the meta-description appears to be longer than this, it will show as ellipses (…) which is sure to put off the reader. 6.Meta Description should be relevant and compelling Every word written in your web page's meta-description should serve the purpose of the reader. It means the meta-description should provide brief information that the web visitor is looking for. This is how you can step into the minds of the visitors and make a space in their lives. So, before writing meta descriptions, search for every query that you think your potential customers might have and provide a brief answer to them in the meta-descriptions. 7.Meta Description should match your content People have a tendency to skim through the content instead of reading them line by line. So, if the content does not grab their attention, they will surely leave the web page in a few seconds. So, to keep them glued to your web page, make sure that the meta-description you provide for the web page is relevant to the content that the viewer will see when directed to the page. 8.Writing readable Meta Description If the meta-description you write is not readable, then it is a waste. While writing the meta- description, do not use fancy or technical words or highly ornamented language that commoners can understand. Conclusion Therefore, when dealing with on site SEO, meta descriptions are essential and should not be missed out on. They should be unique, compelling, and descriptive enough to make the users understand the intent of the page.
