Getting Ready for Bariatric Surgery

Getting ready for Bariatric surgery does need preparation as we really want that surgery should be done in the safest possible circumstances for you. First and foremost is your motivation for surgery. Once we are happy that you understand the surgical process and the care needed afterwards we will ask you to undergo pre-operative evaluation. Prior to the surgery, you would undergo evaluation by the Surgery team and Anaesthetists. Sometimes if you suffer from heart or lung problems you may also need evaluation by a Heart or Lung specialist to make sure you are in the best shape for surgery. 1. Getting Ready for Bariatric Surgery Getting ready for Bariatric surgery does need preparation as we really want that surgery should be done in the safest possible circumstances for you. If you are Diabetic or have hormonal problems we may ask you to see our Endocrinologists also. There are some routine blood tests that are typically done fasting, radiology testing, endoscopy to evaluate the stomach from the inside, and echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) which is done to assess your fitness for anaesthesia. Prior to surgery, if you are smoking or taking alcohol, you would have to stop taking both of them in any form. If you are continuing to smoke, we WOULD NOT proceed with the surgery. This is to help reduce risk associated with surgery and also prevent problems after the surgery over a long term. We encourage you to start some regular exercise at least 15 to 20 minutes daily before surgery so you can start forming good life long habits that then continue and you build on after surgery. We will also ask you to start a liquid high protein diet a few days before the surgery to help shrink the size of your liver, which can make surgery easier for us and safer for you. You would typically be admitted a day before the scheduled date of surgery or on the same day in the morning depending on your medical problems. Good luck on your journey. We will be there throughout to guide you! For more details log on to https://www.obesitysurgeonindia.com Clinic Address: Sector 38, Medanta Medicity, Gurugram, Haryana, 122001 Contact: 8826233885
