  2. The Consumers Bill Of Rights Consumers had little ground on which to defend themselves against faulty or defective products, or against misleading or deceptive advertising methods prior to 1962. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy introduced the consumer bill of rights with additions made by President Nixon and President Ford. The bill gave consumers SIX basic rights.

  3. The Right to Safety • Consumers are protected against sales of dangerous products.

  4. The Right to be Informed • Businesses must give consumers honest and relevant facts about goods and services.

  5. The Right to be Heard • Consumers have a voice in makes laws that affect them.

  6. The Right to Choose • Consumers have the right to choose from a variety of goods and services at competitive prices. Business are forbidden to take actions that limit competition.

  7. The Right to Redress • The right to have a wrong corrected quickly and fairly.

  8. The Right to Consumer Education • All consumer are entitles to information about consumer issues.

  9. Assignment In your groups, read the Nader’s Raiders Packet and do the “Now what do I do” worksheet.
