This document outlines the critical 5 S's protocol for the safe handling of enemy prisoners of war (EPWs). The steps include searching, segregating, silencing, separating, and safeguarding. Thorough searches are essential to prevent hidden weapons that could lead to unexpected attacks. Segregation helps to disrupt chain-of-command dynamics, reducing coordination among EPWs. Silencing through similar methods prevents communication, and separating protects them from harm. The responsibility of every personnel involved is to ensure the safety and security of EPWs during transport and detainment.

5 S’s • Search • Segregate • Silence • Separate • Safeguard
Search enemy prisoners thoroughly before transporting them to avoid unexpected attacks with hidden weapons or an explosive going off. Search the individual from head to toe and all equipment they have with them. Search for PIR as well!!! Search
Segregate officers from enlisted personnel and males from females to break up the chain of command and prevent any planned actions such as resisting or escaping. This also decreases their ability to be an effective military unit. Segregate
Once enemy personnel is segregated, silence them (simulate gag) in order to prevent them from talking to each other or yelling to give away your position. Do so immediately. Silence
Keep all enemy prisoners away from each other at all times, even if they resist. Place them on their knees and cross their feet if necessary to stop them from moving in the squad. Separate
Protect enemy prisoner from further harm from other EPW’s, friendly and enemy forces. Your responsibility!!! Don’t be this guy> Safeguard
