  2. Deep Learning is the fastest-growing field in artificial intelligence (AI). 2

  3. As explained by top Deep Learning Influencer Andrew Ng, Chief Scientist of Baidu Research, from two factors … 3

  4. The first … “…The first major trend for the rise of deep learning is the scale of computation and the scale of data.” -Andrew Ng, Chief Scientist at Baidu Research 4

  5. And second … “… The second major reason, or maybe the second major trend I've seen in deep learning in the last several years, is that deep learning is now able to give much more complex outputs … deep learning is increasingly able to output very complex things, like a sentence or a picture or an audio clip.” -Andrew Ng, Chief Scientist at Baidu 5

  6. “This by itself is enough to transform industry after industry.” Andrew Ng, GTC China 2016 Watch Andrew Ng’s full Keynote Speech HERE 6

  7. Here are the “Top Five” stories highlighting how AI and Deep Learning are accelerating innovation … 7

  8. 1 Microsoft Achieves Speech Recognition Milestone Microsoft researchers have reached a milestone in the quest for computers to understand speech as well as humans. Xuedong Huang, the company’s chief speech scientist, reports that in a recent benchmark evaluation against the industry standard Switchboard speech recognition task, Microsoft researchers achieved a word error rate (WER) of 6.3 percent, the lowest in the industry. A key step forward was a breakthrough for parallel training on graphics processing units, or GPUs. READ MORE Learn more about GPU – Accelerated Computation HERE Microsoft Blog Article 8

  9. 2 Make Furniture Shopping Easier With Houzz’s Deep Learning Tool Houzz is leveraging deep learning technology to make it easier for people to discover and buy products that inspire them. “People come to Houzz because they want to get everything they need to improve their homes in one place, from inspiration to execution,” said Alon Cohen, Houzz co-founder and president. “Visual Match makes it even easier for people to take action on inspiration, enabling them to view a photo in the Houzz app, tap a product in the photo that they love, and …see the product in their own space before purchasing.” READ MORE Find more information on other Deep Learning Applications HERE NVIDIA Developer Article 9

  10. 3 Expanding Deep Learning Institute with Cousera, Udacity, Microsoft Learn to build a self-driving car. Train your computer to automatically detect cancer. The institute’s instructors include NVIDIA’s own deep learning pros, as well as experts from our partners – online educators Coursera and Udacity. We’re also teaming up with Microsoft to teach deep learning for robotics. “Deep learning is affecting a broad range of industries, and we’re seeing huge demand for people with the skills to apply the new technology effectively,” said Mark Ebersole, director of the institute. 11. 4 Robots Receive a New Voice with Google’s DeepMind The WaveNet system can be thought of as an improvement upon concatenative text to speech … it uses an artificial neural network to generate synthetic utterances based upon the voices it was trained with. The downside is that this system is computationally intensive. Modeling raw audio typically requires 16,000 samples per second, with each sample being influenced by all the previous ones. This is well beyond the processing power of a typical smartphone, but not unthinkable for GPUs like NVIDIA’s DGX-1 deep learning supercomputer. 12. 5 What’s the Next Wave for Deep Learning Applications? In the last two weeks alone we have seen research that breaks new ground in each of the following domains via neural networks and advanced machine learning frameworks. Take note of the emphasis on medical applications for neural networks and machine learning. This appears to be where the most aggressive publishing is happening results-wise—and for an emerging market putting all the right tooling and coding in place, it starts to put some substance behind those billion dollar projections. Keep up with the latest Deep Learning applications HERE READ MORE THENEXTPLATFORM Article 12
