  1. Balanced Diet Ideas During Monsoon Monsoon as a season brings mixed reactions among the people as on one hand it brings the much needed relief from the unbearable heat and humidity while on the other hand it brings in a range of health problems. Seasonal cold, fever, typhoid, malaria, dengue, stomach infections, etc are very common during the monsoon. Especially during these times when covid-19 is already wreaking havoc on our health, it is very important to adopt and practice a holistic and nutritionally rich diet that improves our immunity and promotes general wellness. Including dietary supplements such as apple cider, omega fatty acids, multivitamins or green tea tablets along with a normal diet can work wonders in improving body functions and fight infections. Here are a few tips to improve your diet this monsoon: ● Increase fluid intake Proper fluid intake is always important in all seasons. During the monsoon you should drink adequate amounts of safe water as per body needs. In fact it is recommended to carry boiled water rather than fill water from public places. Freshly made kadha, herbal teas, soups, etc are drinks that rehydrate the body, detoxify the system and maintain electrolyte balance.

  2. ● Eat seasonal fruits Seasonal fruits like jamun, plum, papaya, pomegranates contain adequate nutrients like vitamin A, C, fibres and antioxidants to meet the body demand. They also help improve digestion, maintain good bacteria in the gut, boost the immune system and enhance our skin and hair. To bridge the nutrition gap it is recommended to take vitamin tablets for immune system along with daily diet. Also always thoroughly wash the vegetables and fruits before cutting them to avoid diseases. ● Avoid eating outside Monsoon is the ideal season for bacterial and fungal growth. Since we do not know the sanitary standards followed in restaurants and street vendors it is better to avoid them. The temperature and dampness makes it ideal for culture growth leading to several water and food borne diseases. To improve our immunity and cure seasonal cold and sore throat experts recommend taking apple cider vinegar tablets. ● Eat dry fruits and nuts Dry fruits are the richest source of proteins, good cholesterol, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. They are jam packed with nutrients and are very good for overall mental and physical health. In fact nuts and dry fruits should be taken in every season for a proper balanced diet to our body. ● Reduce sea food intake There is increased risk of water contamination during monsoon which makes fish and other seafood vulnerable to infections. Bird flu is also rampant during this season. Poultry is generally avoided and diet should include more greens. Omega capsules are great to fulfil the nutrient demand met by sea food.
