CHALLENGES & REWARDS OF DEVELOPING A HIGH QUALITY WORLDWIDE LEARNING COMMUNITY CalU History Founded in 1852 Comprised of three colleges and graduate school Accredited for over 40 years Traditional enrollment of approximately 7,000 Typically attracts students from a 5 county region in Southwestern Pennsylvania Distance education was non-existent prior to 2003

CHALLENGES & REWARDS OF DEVELOPING A HIGH QUALITY WORLDWIDE LEARNING COMMUNITY CalU’s Challenge The goal of the University is to boost academic productivity through the use of emerging technologies and online education. The task is made more difficult given the normal change resistant bureaucratic structure found at any University or University system.

CHALLENGES & REWARDS OF DEVELOPING A HIGH QUALITY WORLDWIDE LEARNING COMMUNITY Changes as a Result of CalU Global Online Being Created Staff Hires (4 new hires in October) Registration Policy Tuition Calculator Promissory Notes Employer Payment Plan E-Mails Assigned at Acceptance Marketing Plan (New Hire) Web Based Program Task Force Teaching Evaluations

CHALLENGES & REWARDS OF DEVELOPING A HIGH QUALITY WORLDWIDE LEARNING COMMUNITY CalU’s Rewards & Successes Approximately 10 new online programs now offered or in approval process (over 2 year period) Increase in enrollment of over 750 graduate students Two new BS programs with the potential to enroll over 800 students per year Attrition rates lower than 5% across all online programs Financial rewards to online programs and departments across campus Increased recognition nationally and internationally
