  7. Math • enVision Math • Spiral Curriculum, a lot of new material building upon familiar concepts • Quizzes, topic tests, performance tasks • Homework every night reinforces what was learned in school!!

Language Arts Reading • 100BC Logs – • 1 step per night • Checked by teachers daily • Balanced reading genre Genre Study • Instruction in Vocabulary, Comprehension, Fluency, Phonics, Grammar, Spelling, and Writing • Whole group and small group instruction • Weekly comprehension “checks” • Weekly homework assignment to reinforce skill (POW)

  9. Words Their Way • 4 Different Lists • Tests every other Thursday • Choice Boards are set home Monday and they have two weeks to finish 5 activities. • Activities should be completed neatly, labeled and handed in by Thursday • Studying is encouraged

  10. Science • New Program –Pearson Realize • Ch 1: Force and Motion • Ch 2: Energy • Ch 3: Plants • Group Work • Quizzes and Chapter tests

  12. Homework • Math • 100BC Logs • Reading POW • Choice Board • Occasionally science/social studies/studying for tests

Homework • Binders – Very Important, helps teach organization • Please initial student planning page and behavior calendar each night • 3 assignments missed – parents will be called • We encourage parents to work with children and check to make sure HW is complete each night • Questions on HW???

  14. PSSA • April 3-7 & April 24-28 • Reading and Math • Multiple choice and open-ended questions • Teach children test-taking strategies. • Look for practices and more information to be sent home in early 2017.

  16. Recess • Re-usable water bottles (must seal tightly and go home each night) • Only water (no juice) • Recess is usually outside – students should dress for the weather

  17. Birthday, Parties, & Invitations • Students are welcome to bring in non-edible birthday treats to celebrate their birthdays. • Please do not bring birthday party invitations to school unless you plan to invite the entire class

  18. Absent Notes/ Tardiness • Please send in absent notes when your child is absent

  19. Communication • Please contact me anytime. Email is quick and easy. Please give me 24 hours to return emails and phone calls. • Emergencies and late in the day dismissal changes should not be left on teacher voicemails or emails.
