Centro (PT) is rich in multiple natural resources (forest, agricultural, sea, mines, clay, sun,…) On behalf of territorial cohesion we need to improve the economic value of rural territories even for those products for which we do not yet have a market On behalf of competitiveness we need to promote the creation of new startups and new business models, towards the improvement of the economic activity efficiency Circular Economy: a strategy to improve the efficiency of companies and territorial valorization promoting symbiosis both industrial and among different land uses (forest, agriculture and urban areas)

Territorial innovation REGIONAL STRATEGY – THE RIS3 In the RIS3 process of Centro region were defined four innovation hubs, based in eight temathic domains and in cross cutting priorities Forest Tourim Materials ICET Agriculture Sea Health Bio technology Cross cutting priorities Sustainable resources Energy efficiency Territorial cohesion Internationalization

Territorial innovation REGIONAL STRATEGY – THE RIS3 Promotion of sustainable materials, products and processes leading to a new industry as a reply to societal challenges such as the efficient use of resources, circular economy, mitigation of climate changes and Industry 4.0. Valorization of endogenous resources, mapping and preserving them as well as creating new  added value products for different sectors. Monitoring and integrated management of endogenous resources. Development of technologies and solutions for health prevention, diagnosis and new treatments. Healthy and active ageing solutions. ICT systems development. Welfare and health tourism integrated offer. Territory innovation projects development from low density rural areas innovation to sustainable cities solutions as a test bed for green and low-carbon economy as well as for tourism qualification and regional competitiveness.

SCREEN, Synergic Circular Economy across European Regions H2020 project just approved with Lazio (IT), Lombardia (IT), Navarra (ES), Lodzkie (PL), Crete (GR), Réunion (FR), Limburg (NL), Fryslan (NL), Pirkanmaan (FI) and UK MAIN OBJECTIVE: to develop an EU reference framework to establish operational synergies between Regions, supporting an emerging transition to new Circular Economy businesses in strategic sectors, that will also be promoted by a portfolio of financing instruments integrating H2020 and ESIF related to Circular Economy • Sustaining the regional actors’ participation at H2020 • Encouraging the entrepreneurial initiatives based on H2020 project’s results • Investigating the possibility of maximizing the H2020 investment through a “recovery”(fully or partial) of well ranked unfinanced proposals
