  1. VVS Laxman Explains the Glitches in Ajinkya Rahane’s batting Former India player VVS Laxman has opened up on the pattern which has become a norm with Ajinkya Rahane’s dismissals in recent times. Rahane, who had a slow start to reach 49, fell to New Zealand’s trap of a short-ball in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship final in Southampton. A brilliant captaincy was seen from the New Zealand captain Kane Williamson as he discussed with Neil Wagner and added an extra fielder at square leg. Rahane, being a puller of the short ball, fell for the trap and played a shot to be caught by Tom Latham as well. And, Laxman said that Rahane has to understand his loopholes and needs to work on that as well. “I am always impressed with Kane Williamson’s captaincy," Laxman said on Star Sports. “I thought that Ajinkya Rahane was getting his eye in, he was batting much better, he looked more assured on the crease as compared to yesterday. But this is something that has become a pattern with Ajinkya Rahane’s batting. It was the same game plan that New Zealand used against him in Christchurch. This is something he requires to understand."

  2. He continued: “You talked about the planning between Neil Wagner and Kane Williamson. There was no fielder there on the fifth delivery, the one before he got out. And then a fielder was placed there and also near the backward short-leg. It forced Ajinkya Rahane to play half-hearted pull short. There was no conviction in that pull short and this would be something Ajinkya Rahane will be disappointed with," he added. However, India could manage only 217 runs on the board in the rain-affected final as New Zealand bowlers dismantled the bating line up. While Trent Boult, Neil Wagner and Tim Southee shared five wickets among them, the rest of the wickets were taken by the young pacer Kyle Jamieson, who returned with the figure of 5 for 31 in his 22 overs as well.
