  1. Virat Kohli Rules Out Chances Of Mayank Agarwal Playing The Second Test Before the second Test of the five-match series against England, the Indian captain, Virat Kohli has confirmed that India will stick with the opening combination of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. The opening pair did a great job in the first Test in Nottingham. Despite the match ending in a draw due to the washed out final day, there were a few positives and the opening partnership was one of them a swell. But, both Rahul and Rohit, who opened together for the first time in the longer format in Nottingham, managed to add a brilliant partnership of 97 runs in India’s first innings as well. However, despite their fantastic opening stand, there were some rumors regarding whether Mayank Agarwal, who was the first choice for India prior to the first Test, before KL Rahul, might be added in the playing XI. But, the captain has explained that the team management is comfortable with the Rohit-Rahul opening stand as well. During the pre-match press conference, Virat Kohli said, “Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul played really well in the first Test match. We are comfortable with how we are placed. We do not feel that we are Batsman short.” Unfortunately, Mayank Agarwal had suffered a concussion just before the first Test and his absence gave a chance to KL Rahul to get back in the team as an opener. Notably, he had not played a single Test since August 2019. Despite his long absence from the Tests, Rahul seemed quite comfortable in the middle and managed to play a brilliant inning which in some ways saved India as the middle order crumbled under pressure.

Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, got 36 runs in the first innings whereas he was unbeaten on 12 in the second innings. The second Test will begin on August 12.
