  2. FMCSA, or Federal motor carrier safety administration, works with DOT to ensure the safety of the roads. There are several FMCSA drug testing programs, along with random drug testing in California, which have been made mandatory for every individual who operates heavy automobiles. There are also certain FMCSA guidelines that they have issued for the truck and bus drivers that need to be followed. They understand that large trucks and buses face unique safety challenges that need to be addressed. Let us look at some of the tips put forth by the federal motor carrier safety administration in order to enhance road safety.

  3. 1- Check your blind spots It is generally advised to check the mirrors every 8 to 10 seconds to be aware of the vehicles that might enter your blind spot. Doing so will help the driver analyze the surroundings and be aware of their movement to prevent any accidents. Furthermore, truck or bus drivers should also scan the road ahead to analyze traffic issues, work zones, and other dangers.

  4. 2-Be aware of the long stopping distance Another important thing to keep in mind is the long stopping distance. It is one simple aspect that a lot of people fail to analyze. Large trucks and buses need a decent space in the front to stop. Furthermore, driving too fast or failing to slow down during the curves or ramps can further enhance the risk of crashes and rollovers. Keeping these factors in mind ensures safety on the road for truck drivers and prevents road accidents.

  5. 3- Make wide turns carefully The bigger the body, the more space it will require to make a turn. Furthermore, as mentioned earlier, it is also important to be at a slower speed. Trucks and buses require extra space and time to make turns. Being aware of the surroundings mixed with a controlled slower speed is the best way for these heavy motor vehicles to make turns.

  6. 4- Always buckle up It is a basic rule for all automobiles, whether small or larger one, Buckle up! Wearing your seat belt enhances your road safety. Seat belts are specially designed to protect you during accidents, saving lives and reducing injuries. When a driver loses control of the vehicle or crashes, it keeps you safely tucked inside the vehicle, protecting you from major injuries.
