Master of Engineering in a Nutshell • Collaborative program, designed by the three state universities • Serves the advanced educational needs of our industrial customers, practicing engineers and residential students • Primary course delivery method through distance learning - to provide anytime, anyplace education

Features • Student access to Arizona’s university courses and resources maximized • Flexible course delivery/scheduling • Regular on-campus offerings • On-line web courses • Video tape/satellite courses • Metropolitan broadcast • No university residence requirement • Students are not bound to a campus environment • Job-related deadlines and travel schedules can be accommodated

Administrative Structure • Campus Directors • Recommend students for admission • Coordinate local campus activities • Coordinating Board • Policy/procedures oversight • Coordination of offerings and exchange of information • Facilitate cross-campus academic and student services • Industrial Advisory Board • Provide strategic advice to ensure that the program is serving the needs of practicing engineers

Program ManagerReports to the chair of the coordinating board • Manages academic, administrative and development activities. • Markets and prepares promotional materials. • Interacts with educational coordinators in industry. • Interacts with graduate colleges, registrars, extended university units, etc. • Maintains a common student data base. • Develops statistics and reports as needed. • Monitors and maintains web site. • Guides and trains tri-university staff. • Acts as an information resource for staff.

Master of Engineering Industrial Advisory Board (AB) • The AB interacts with deans and the coordinating board regarding: • Emerging technical education needs. • Student access to Master of Engineering educational offerings. • Facilitation of faculty/industry partnerships for curricular and course development and student project advising. • Recruitment of students. • Resource development to promote and maintain the program.

Master of Engineering Industrial Advisory Board (AB)(continued) • AB members serve as advocates for the program: • Within their industrial communities and particularly within their organizations • When necessary and appropriate, to the Universities, the Arizona Board of Regents, and the State legislature • AB members attend two to three meetings annually in order to: • Be apprised of the status of the program • Provide strategic advice regarding its evolution

Admission Requirements • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with a suitable background for the desired field of study • Transcripts must be provided • A minimum grade point average of 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale) • Last 60 units of the undergraduate transcript or • Last 12 units of the post-baccalaureate transcript • GRE may be required by some academic units. • Admission, or provisional admission, decision at discretion of campus

Admission Process • Choose “home institution” (ASU, NAU or UA) • Submit application to Graduate College at preferred home institution (either ASU, NAU or UA) • Submit supplemental application to the Tri-University program • Master of Engineering program application form • Statement of career objectives/goals • 3 letters of recommendation

Degree Requirements • Complete a total of 30 units of coursework • 3 units in each of two areas: engineering math and business/management • Option for up to 6 units of a practice-oriented project • Half of all coursework, excluding the project, must be in engineering • Pass a final examination as determined by the faculty advisory committee

  18. Home Institution • Accepts students’ applications • Provides at least one advisor / approves study plan • Assures satisfactory academic progress • Maintains student records / confers the degree in collaboration with other universities
