  5. Important Tips on Balance • The centre of gravity (C of G) is the point where all the weight acts • Increase balance by: • Lowering the C of G • Increase the width of the B of S • Stiffen the body Ever Active Schools: Physical Literacy

  6. The Phases of Movement • Movement through a fundamental skill can be broken down into four key phases: • Preparation • Force Production • Critical Instant • Recovery/Follow through National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Ever Active Schools: Physical Literacy

Teaching FMS for Success • Teach the entire skill (i.e., preparation, execution, follow-through). • Always assess and provide feedback: • Step 1: Observe the complete skill • Step 2: Analyze each phase and its key elements; select errors to be corrected • Step 3: Provide Feedback Ever Active Schools: Physical Literacy

Analyzing Throwing • Are all parts of the body being used to generate force? • Are all body parts moving through their full range of motion? • Is the thrower stepping forward with the right leg? • Are they leaning forward as they throw? • Is the hand moving back and up, so that it is behind, and above the head?   11. Throwing Activity: An Example • In partners, practice observing and analyzing a throw • Use a paper ball • 3 times each, then switch roles • Bucket relay activity Ever Active Schools: Physical Literacy
