Facts about BTH • The institute was founded in 1989 • Two campuses: Karlskrona and Karlshamn • 7209 registered students • 532 employees • In 1999 BTH was granted university status in Engineering; today we run PhD study programmes in “IT with applications” and “Planning and Management” • In 2008 BTH became climate neutral • In 2011 Confucius Institute was established at BTH • In 2011 BTH was awarded theECTS Label

  3. Vision and profile Blekinge Institute of Technology is one of the most distinctly profiled higher education institutions in Sweden. The profile is applied information technology and innovation for sustainablegrowth. The Vision is to be a globally attractive knowledge community within applied information technology and innovation for sustainable growth.

  4. Educational areas BTH’s main focus is IT, and the applied IT profile means that IT is inergrated in all our education areas. 3 % Medicine 56 % Engineering 22 % Social Science and management 9 % Health science 7 % Natural Science 3 % Humanities

Education • 28 Bachelor level study programmes • 20 Master level study programmes • 20 programmes taught in English • 7 209 individual students • Approx. 41 % of the students are female • Approx. 500 foreign students • Bachelor´s- and master´s level education accounts for two-thirds of BTH`s activities.

Worldleading research • 42 professors • 104 doctoral students within Engineering • 15 doctoral students within other areas • 14 PhD study programmes within engineering • Research accounts for one-third of BTH’s activities • BTH´s research in systems and software engineering as well as sustainability is considered to be among the top six in the world.

Awards • BTH`s research in systems and software engineering is considered to be among the top six in the world. • Journal of Systems and Software, 2011 • Two of BTH:s professors in sustainability research is considered to be among the top six in the world. GlobeSustainability Research Award, 2011 • When the Russian Ministry of Education and Science chose leading scientists in the world for research grants, two of BTH's researchers won in mathematics and physics 2011. • In 2011 BTH has been awarded the ECTS label, recognitions of quality in the European Higher Education Area.

BTH – in real life • BTH is one of the founders of the Baltic Maritime Science Park - an international cluster in maritime safety. • BTH is the project manager of Green Charge East - a broad partnership projects for electric vehicles. • BTH collaborates with the Swedish Transport Administration to reduce train delays. • BTH cooperates with SIDA and VINNOVA in Scandinavian Competitiveness and Development. • BTH collaborates with Ericsson and Compuverde in the area of ​​data storage in the cloud.

BTH – in real life • BTH research in software engineering is focused on the development and maintenance of software-intensive systems and services for challenges relevant to the industry. • BTH is involved in strategic research project ELLIT a focus on IT and mobile communications. • BTH and Blekinge County Council carries out joint research projects in areas such as medical imaging. • BTH is involved in the project PrimCareIT dealing with health remotely and how sustainable e-health services and products can further evolve.
