  1. Seeing the Holy Spirit Working “Can You Hear Me Now?” Romans 8:25-27 Page 1757

  2. The Purpose: Was to help us see the Holy Spirit at work in Scripture and in the lives of others so that we could better see Him working within our own lives.

  3. The Point: Today we conclude by looking into Romans 8 to see the Spirit at work in the area of communication with God. Another work of the Spirit is to aide us in sending and receiving communication from God. But do you know how it all works?

  4. Questions: How does God know what is in your mind? Does he read it all of the time? Do you open a portal with the words “Dear God” and so now, God can know what you are thinking? The when you say “Amen” does the signal fade? Is it intended to be mainly one way communication?

  5. Questions: Is the signal clear and we are tuned into the wrong one or is it vague intentionally? Could God just text a message right into our brain? Why has God set it to have the Holy Spirit work as a translator in the way that He has? What is the advantage of having the Spirit working this way?

  6. Intermittent Communication: Intermittent communication is frustrating, would you agree? Do you remember the Verizon commercials with the person walking around asking “Can you hear me now?

  8. Intermittent Connection: How different would your faith be if your connection to God was intermittent and you did not know if He got the message, if He was trying to talk to you, or if He cared at all? Knowing that the Holy Spirit is at work during communication to God is a blessing even if we do not understand how He does it.

  9. Romans 8:25-27 Page 1757 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. 26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.

  10. Opening Our Eyes! Seeing the Spirit at work takes opening our eyes. Once you begin to see where, and how, the Spirit is working, it is easier to see Him working in other areas and in other ways. Too often our vision is limited but vision can change. 2 Kings 6:14-17 Page 579

  11. Taking It Home: We need to pray for open eyes which impact our faith and the choices that we make each day. When we see the Spirit at work it is easier to choose to surrender our choices and join Him in His work. When we rely on our limited vision we miss what is really going on.

  12. We receive the Holy Spirit as a gift when we hear and obey the gospel message (Acts 2:38). The Holy Spirit then takes up residence within us so that He can guide our thoughts, desires, and actions in ways that are pleasing to God. He helps us battle against our selfish desires and makes the word of God understandable and applicable. He helps us send and receive communication with God.

  13. Galatians 5:25 pg 1816 “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”
