Evolution of Land Use Systems in the Sahel: Towards Sustainable Futures

Group discussions and planning of research activities focusing on changes in land use systems in the Sahel region since 1970. Identifying driving forces and exploring plausible future scenarios. Criteria include tenure, pastoral systems, water resources, forestry, and more. Collaboration with information sources like Agrhymet, INERA, CIRD, and more. Deliverables include relevant publications list, site maps, and main findings summaries. Material to be completed by November 2010.

Result to be delivered • List of relevant publications • Map of sites studied (if relevant) • Short description of main findings of each publication and (if available) electronic version of abstract • Identification of issues identified in the publication as factors of change, when applicable (following the conceptual templates provided by the land use literature (driving forces) an the historical timeline diagram proposed by Cheikh (french versions to be provided by Anette)
