Caloric under feeding can effect ventilator days, length of stay and number of infections Pre-operative nutritional status is important The lower the weight, the higher the risk How long are we comfortable leaving without support.

When we feed the gut, the selection of nutrients will alter the metabolic function and oxygen demand of the enterocyte.
