Some of the Salaf said: It is like their saying, “The wind was nice and the captain (of the ship) was precise,” and similar things found often on people’s tongues. It is when someone says, “By Allaah, your life O So-and-So, and mine…” or if you said, “Had it not been for this this guy’s little guard dog, robbers would have come to us,” or, “Had it not been for this duck, robbers would have come,” or when a man says to his friend, “However Allaah and you want it,” or, “Had it not been for Allaah and So-and-So…” Don’t put So-and-So in it, as all of this is shirk!
