  1. BGP-based Auto-discovery mechanism for l1vpnsdraft-ouldbrahim-l1vpn-bgp-autodiscovery-00.txt Hamid Ould-Brahim Don Fedyk Yakov Rekhter IETF 64, 11/05, Vancouver, Canada

  2. Mechanism • Document the BGP discovery mechanism for l1vpns (historically coming from GVPN draft). • The auto-discovery mechanism for l1vpns allows the provider network devices to dynamically discover the set of PEs having ports attached to CEs member of the same l1vpns. • Focus on PE-PE discovery. • In general it follows draft-l3vpn-bgpvpn-auto-06.txt base specification: • RTs for constraining route distribution • Exception: No RD field. • That information is necessary for completing the signaling phase (in a single sided provisioning model). • First version focuses on basic mode auto-discovery mode.

  3. PIT on PE 1 for VPNA CPI PPI Additional Information 10.1.1.1 16.1.1.1 OC-48 SONET 10.1.1.3 16.1.1.3 OC-48 SONET 10.1.1.4 16.1.1.4 OC-48 SONET Populated through BGP 10.1.1.3 {<CPI,PPI>} 10.1.1.1 CE3 CE1 VPN Auto-Discovery (BGP-MP) 16.1.1.3 16.1.1.1 10.1.1.4 10.1.1.6 CE4 CE61 16.1.1.4 16.1.1.6 10.1.1.5 16.1.1.5 CE5 PIT: Port Information Table CPI: Customer Port identifier PPI:Provider Port Identifier A PIT is created for each L1VPN connected to the PE PE2 PE3 PE1 PE4 PE5 PE5 • The PIT is populated from: • Local customer/provider port • information (CPI/PPI) • Through using a VPN auto-discovery • mechanism (e.g., BGP-MP)

  5. Next Step • Enhanced mode will be covered in future revised versions of the draft. • Questions?
