  1. What is headspace? headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation. It works to reduce the impact of mental illness and drug and alcohol use on young people in Australia. headspace Southern Downs is governed by a Consortium of four agencies: RHealth Limited (lead agency), Southern Downs Mental Health Service, DRUG ARM, and Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE. headspace National Youth Mental Health Foundation Ltd is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing under the Youth Mental Health Initiative Program Created on 2705/2011.   4. What to expect at headspace Southern Downs: Intake Assessment- • Your first appointment is with a headspace staff member. It takes about 1 hour. • The appointment begins by explaining what happens at headspace Southern Downs and completing a full assessment where we can start to understand your needs. • Feel free to bring a friend or family member. What to expect at headspace Southern Downs: • Ongoing • care • Once your intake is completed the Care Coordinator will discuss with you the options available to meet your needs. • This may include an appointment with a Doctor to get a Mental Health Treatment Plan, which allows you to see a Psychologist or Social worker at headspace Southern Downs. • You may see different people at headspace Southern Downs as you work through certain issues. • Appointments usually last 1 hour and depending on what issues you need help with will determine how many times you will need to come to headspace. • The average number of sessions is 5. headspace National Youth Mental Health Foundation Ltd is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing under the Youth Mental Health Initiative Program Created on 2705/2011. What to expect at headspace Southern Downs: • Consent • In Qld law no age of consent is specified. • Consent is based on the ability of the young person to understand the nature and extent of treatment, and side effects of treatment. • If you are under 16 years it requires that the young person be encouraged to involve parents in knowledge of treatment but places the 'best interests' of the young person above any parental right to be informed. • Your Care Co-ordinator will discuss this with you at the beginning of the intake assessment. headspace National Youth Mental Health Foundation Ltd is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing under the Youth Mental Health Initiative Program Created on 2705/2011.
