  1. Honda of America Racing Team 2006 Civic Si • 2006 One Lap of America Results: • 1st Place in Economy Class • 4th Place Overall • Rookie of the year

  2. 2006 One Lap of America Event Report In their first attempt at the Cannonball One Lap of America, the Honda of America Racing Team (HART) not only walked away with the Economy Class win, but also took 4th Overall in the highly competitive 88 car field! HART team members Bryan Johnson and Jon Midgley competed in a specially prepared 2006 Honda Civic Si. The 2006 One Lap consisted of 17 scored events at 9 tracks in 8 days, with over 4500 miles of road driving between tracks. The One Lap rules require that the entire event, both road and track driving, be completed on one set of street tires. The team chose Michelin Pilot Sport PS2’s, which provided outstanding wet and dry grip with minimal wear. The keys to success for HART were thorough preparation, consistently fast driving, and 100% reliability from the Civic Si. The top three overall finishers had over 500 HP, and many of the cars that were beaten by HART were modified high-powered cars such as Vipers, Corvettes, Porsches, and Nobles. Rain on the last two days also helped HART move up in the overall standings as some of the high-powered rear-wheel-drive cars struggled to find traction. There were several very long drives during the week, including an 1100 mile overnight drive from Mid-America Motorplex near Omaha, NE to No Problem Raceway near New Orleans, LA. The HART 2006 Civic Si was a terrific car for the One Lap, with a solid balance of power, handling, and braking. A Jackson Racing supercharger was added to the stock 2.0L iVTEC engine along with a DC Sports exhaust and AEM cold-air intake, boosting output from 197 HP to 258 HP. An Exedy Stage 2 clutch and lightweight flywheel were added to handle the additional power. Koni double-adjustable struts and dampers, and a Progress Technology 22 mm rear anti-roll-bar were fitted to improve handling. Hawk Performance DTC brake pads were added to handle the extreme brake temperatures of track driving. The team also lightened the car by 200 lb with the help of carbon-fiber hood and trunk panels from Seibon, and a custom carbon-fiber sunroof replacement panel made by HART and Algie Composites. The factory installed Honda Navigation system helped guide the team as they drove across the Eastern half of the US, and the comfort of the all-new Civic interior helped the team stay rested and ready to race. All of the factory safety equipment was retained, including the front, side, and side-curtain airbags for maximum protection during the 4500 miles of road driving. First in class and 4th Overall were outstanding results in a very competitive field, proving the potential of the new Civic Si, and HART’s capabilities for car and event preparation. HART would like to thank Honda of America Manufacturing for providing the opportunity to pursue the Honda Racing Spirit, and the companies that provided products, services, and expertise: Koni North America, Jackson Racing, Exedy USA, Hawk Performance, AEM, DC Sports, Progress Technology, Algie Composites, DEI/CryO2 and The Paintin’ Place.
