  1. “A Daring Faith!” Matthew 14:22-33

  2. On May 30, 1967, at the Ascot Speedway in Gardena, CA, Bobbie gunned his Triumph motorcycle and jumped…

  3. Robert Craig Knievel

  4. In like vein, some have looked at our text and thought Peter as the “Evel Knievel” of the Bible. Many view his act of stepping out of the boat…

  5. Purpose: to better understand the attributes of a daring faith

  6. I THERE WAS FEAR A. Consider Peter’s Situation

  7. In a little boat on the Sea of Galilee with eleven other men, discouraged and tired…

  8. To add to their discouragement, Jesus came walking on water, but they didn’t recognize Him. The results? Fear…

  9. I THERE WAS FEAR A. Consider Peter’s Situation B. Consider Our Situation

  10. Jesus comes through His word and we often forget what His word says about love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness…

  11. II THERE WAS CONFIDENCE A. Jesus Calmed Peter’s Fear

  12. Bible is written in a large measure just to calm us down… Again and again we read fear not! Fear was driven away and in its place came a glorious and daring faith in Peter!

  13. II THERE WAS CONFIDENCE A. Jesus Calmed Peter’s Fear B. Peter’s Request

  14. Notice the affect the presence of Jesus had on Peter – fear is replaced with confidence (faith)… No longer a fear factor. It now is a faith factor!

  15. Christ always commends faith in those who properly identify Him… He delights in a bold/daring faith... Not once does He praise a reserved or stunted faith.

  16. II THERE WAS CONFIDENCE A. Jesus Calmed Peter’s Fear B. Peter’s Request C. Jesus’ Response

  17. In short, Peter dared to do what others were afraid to undertake…

  18. Often a demonstrative faith is discouraged rather than encouraged. Why? Like a bucket of crabs…

  19. III THERE WAS FAILURE A. Peter Lost Sight of Christ B. Peter Began to Sink C. Peter Uttered a Prayer

  20. Honest and open with himself, he didn’t fight it saying “I’d rather do it myself…” instead, he throws himself on the mercy and power of Christ the Lord!… Prayed to the point… “Lord, save me!”

  21. …Real faith dares something. It dares something that is brawny and seemingly insurmountable. Real faith dreams and works towards those dreams…

  22. “The world is yet to see what God can do through a few people who are totally sold out to Him.” Dwight L. Moody

  23. Successful organizations consistently develop what they call B.H.A.G. (Big Hairy Audacious Goals)…

  24. Summary and Conclusion: We can adapt that idea and start encouraging each other to dream, talk, work and plan toward B.H.A.G.: Big Holy Audacious Goals. Let’s put our practice where our mouth is. Let’s try something so BIG that if God isn’t in it, we will fail!…
