  1. Analysis BC Mrs. Bailey

  2. Course Rationale The Analysis BC course is designed to provide a thorough treatment of trigonometry and analytic geometry as well as all functions and relations required for AP Calculus BC.

  3. Units: Unit 1: Review of Trig & Trig Graphing Unit 2: Inverse Trig & Models Unit 3: Additional Topics in Trig Unit 4: Functions & Analytic Geometry Unit 5: Polynomial Functions Unit 6: Rational Functions Unit 7: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions Unit 8: Conic Sections Unit 9: Polar and Parametric Equations Unit 10: Inductive Reasoning Unit 11: Infinite Series Unit 12: Limits Unit 13: Definition of the Derivative

  4. Goals • Develop analytical thinking skills • Build problem solving skills • Prepare them to take Calculus BC next year.

  5. Materials Needed • 3-ring binder with loose leaf and graph paper • Separate folder to turn in homework at the end of the unit • Graphing Calculator (TI-83 would do but 84 recommended) • Textbook may be kept at home

  6. Grading • Homework Assignments • Unit Tests & Quizzes • Midterm & Final Exam

  7. Pinnacle Notes: • “0” means they were present but did not turn it in. A penalty would be given for these assignments if they were turned in. Depending upon the size of the assignment, late assignments may or may not be taken for any credit. (For example, regularly not having homework checks would not be given partial credit if given in late. However, if it was a first offense, or a larger assignment partial credit could be earned.) • “Z” means student still needs to turn in that assignment (or if in a test/quiz column, they need to make it up still). Pinnacle calculates it as a zero, so the lower grade will act as a reminder and encouragement to make sure it is gotten in. A “Z” is not an assignment which will penalized as long as it is made up by the time is agreed upon by me & the student. • “X” means student is excused from that assignment. Pinnacle does not treat it like a zero. An “X” means a student may make up that assignment if they like, but they do not have to.

  8. AB vs. BC • Analysis BC > Calc BC • Analysis BC is an honors level • Analysis BC thoroughly covers limits and in introduction into derivatives by the end of the year and does many topics in trig in much greater depth, so it travels at a significantly faster pace. (we do about a month worth of extra topics) • Calc BC (AP course) studies both Calc 1 & Calc 2 in a single year. • Analysis AB> Calc AB • Analysis AB is an honors level • Analysis AB does not cover some trig topics nor limits as rigorously nor has an intro into derivatives. • Calc AB (AP course) studies only Calc 1

  9. SAT Subject Test:Math 2 Students will have covered the material on the Math 2 subject test so they can take it at the end of this year if they desired or thought they would need it for colleges they may be applying to in the future. (The tests generally take place in late May or early June, so they should sign up by spring break or earlier to avoid a late fee.) For more info you can go to http://sat.collegeboard.com
