  2. MYTH:BIRTH OF BASKETBALL • In the beginning Naismith took a peach basket and a ball and said “This will make a grand game”, and IT WAS GOOD. NEXT SLIDE

  3. MYTH:CONTINUED • He hung the peach basket and created the game of basketball. At first it was slow going, but soon the game caught on. He looked upon his creation and realized that he needed to make the game faster, so he created the point guard, and IT WAS GOOD. NEXT SLIDE

  4. MYTH:CONTINUED • Soon the game was too fast and he thought that he needed to slow it down some so he created the power forward and the shooting guard, and IT WAS GOOD. NEXT SLIDE

  5. MYTH:CONTINUED • Now the game was played away from the rim and he sensed that he needed to move the game closer in, so he created the BIG MAN, and IT WAS GOOD. NEXT SLIDE

  6. MYTH:CONTINUED • As he gazed upon his creation he saw the speed of Oscar Robertson, the grace and athleticism of Magic Johnson and the power of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and IT WAS GOOD. NEXT SLIDE

  7. MYTH:CONTINUED • Now he could rest because his creation had become the most popular game in the world, played by millions of people around the globe, and IT WAS VERY GOOD. NEXT SLIDE

  8. DOCTRINE “YOU CAN’T WIN IF YOU DON’T SCORE, AND YOU CAN’T SCORE IF YOU DON’T SHOOT.”

  9. ETHICS:5 COMMANDEMENTS 1: THOU SHALL NOT PASS UP THE OPEN SHOOT. 5: THOU SHALL NEVER MISS FREE THROWS. 3: THOU SHALL NOT QUESTION THE COACH. 2: THOU SHALL PROTECT THE BASKETBALL. 4: THOU SHALL PRACTICE EVERY OPPORTUNITY THOU CAN.

  10. SOCIAL • 1: ALL PARTICIPANTS IN BASKETBALL MUST NEVER MISS A SCHEDULED PRACTICE. • 2: ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST NEVER MISS A GAME/TOURNAMENT.

  11. EXPERIENTIAL • ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST FOLLOW THE COACHES GAMEPLAN. • THEY MUST NOT QUESTION HIS STRATEGY OF THE GAME.

  12. RITUAL • ANYBODY LOOKING TO PARTICIPATE IN A BASKETBALL PROGRAM MUST GO THROUGH A TRYOUT. • IF YOU MAKE THE TEAM, YOU MUST SHOW YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE PROGRAM BY ATTENDING ALL TEAM EVENTS.
