  3. www.thejitty.com The Jitty’s History • Oadby and Wigston Borough Council – Dec 2003, with 3 highly talented young people. • Consultation, leading to development of the site. • Launched March 8th 2005, with the backing of Leicestershire County Council

  4. www.thejitty.com What is “The Jitty”? • It’s a website for young people, by young people. But it’s not just a website, it’s an online community as opposed to a “shop front”. • Works closely with CYCle. • With links to important organisations, such as FRANK, Connexions, NSPCC, University Hospitals of Leicester and Leicestershire Constabulary.

  5. www.thejitty.com Why? • To support, help and provide information to young people in Leicestershire. • Consultation • The Jitty covers several issues young people should know about • It gets young people’s voices heard, as they are both the writers and editors of the site.

  6. www.thejitty.com Who is it aimed at? All young people, 13-19, living in Leicestershire, irrespective of age, ability or ethnicity.

  7. www.thejitty.com Where are we now? • Used by young people all over Leicestershire. • There are over 570 registered members • There are around 50 writers for the site • Around 10,000 hits on the website a month • Won a national award from Wavemakers (NCB) ….and all of this is without any major promotional campaign, and with help from CYCLe. • We have useful information, such as…

  8. www.thejitty.com Useful Information The Jitty provides lots of useful information to young people, for example: - Drugs Jobs Sports Sex Youth Councils Education Facilities Local and National News Things to do Activities

  9. www.thejitty.com Other Content • Games • Sports • Books • Music • FilmsBy writing about items of interest to young people they are improving their literacy skills.

  10. www.thejitty.com The Future of The Jitty • We want to make sure every Young Person in Leicestershire knows about The Jitty • We intend to go to schools to promote The Jitty • We aim to tell teachers (and other professionals) and guardians about The Jitty
