  1. Lesson 2 Sculpture - Towers

  2. Learning Outcomes • Be able to analyse and research a 3 dimensional problem in art and design • Be able to use an integrated approach to 3 dimensional problem solving in art and design

  3. TASK ONE

  4. Assessment Criteria • 1.1 Analyse the requirements and parameters of a 3 dimensional problem • 1.2 Apply research activities to support solutions to 3 dimensional problems in art and design

  5. Task One – Metal Towers • In your teams you are going to construct a tower from steel strapping. • In your groups you must firstly analyse steel. How is steel available? In what shapes can you get it? Is it hard or flexible and how can it be made stronger to make it structural? How can I cut, join and shape steel? • Using computers must find images of metal towers to help you with the design process and you can analyse the materials you will be using RECORD ALL INFORMATION IN YOUR SKETCHBOOKS AS THIS IS PART OF THE ASSESSMENT

  6. TASK TWO

  7. Assessment Criteria 2.1 Demonstrate the ability to plan, organise and prepare solutions to a 3 dimensional problem in art and design

  8. Task Two – Metal Towers • In your teams you must create a design for your steel tower using the research you have gathered. • In your groups you must allocate tasks of who is going to do what. • You must then construct your towers using the workshop materials and equipment. RECORD ALL INFORMATION IN YOUR SKETCHBOOKS AS THIS IS PART OF THE ASSESSMENT

  9. TASK THREE

  10. Assessment Criteria 2.2 Apply practical skills, understanding and methods to solve three dimensional problems in art and design

  11. Task Three – Metal Towers • In your teams construct your towers using the steel strapping and workshop equipment. Points once again go to tallest tower and most sophisticated overall winners will win a prize!!! RECORD ALL INFORMATION IN YOUR SKETCHBOOKS AS THIS IS PART OF THE ASSESSMENT. TAKE PHOTOS OF YOU WORKING ON YOUR PROJECTS

  13. What needs to be finished • Research of steel and steel cutting, forming and joining • Research images of steel structures and towers. Write about them • Designs for construction next week. Create your own designs and work together to make final designs
