    2. LANDFILL GAS GENERATION AT DEMOLITION LANDFILLS – AN EMERGING ISSUE Landfill Gas is Generated at Demolition Landfills Demolition Landfills Not Designed to Manage Gas Primary Concerns are Methane (Migration Through Soils, Underground Fires) and Hydrogen Sulfide (Worker Exposure, Odors), and Oxygen Displacement in Confined Spaces Current Minnesota Regulations Do Not Address Gas Management at Demolition Landfills So here are some of the facts and issues we are having to contend with… Even though not always anticipated, landfill gas is generated at demolition landfills fro the breakdown of certain wastes such as wood and wallboard Gas generation is not a good thing as these facilities are not designed to account for gas generation The main concerns associated with these facilities are methane and H2S. Minnesota Solid Waste Rules for Demolition Debris Land Disposal Facilities do not address landfill gas monitoring, collection, and treatment So here are some of the facts and issues we are having to contend with… Even though not always anticipated, landfill gas is generated at demolition landfills fro the breakdown of certain wastes such as wood and wallboard Gas generation is not a good thing as these facilities are not designed to account for gas generation The main concerns associated with these facilities are methane and H2S.
