The History
  • The camp first began as a camping area for African-American children in 1936. The original organizers included Georgia New Farmers of America, Boys Clubs of America, Boy Scouts, 4-H, & YMCA

  • 1938: First Camping Session
  • Camp Named for Dr. John Hope, President of Atlanta University and early supporter of building a camp facility
  • The first campers had no electricity
  • Mr. Alva Tabor and Miss Daisy Lewis were instrumental in making camp improvements
