  3. Overview • I feel that the most difficult activity in this assignment was “ruining a poem”. It is very hard for me to take any other type of language, especially it’s slang, and fit it in with my everyday talk. Although, I found it to be difficult, it was the most interesting. It amazes me how the words that I use to replace our everyday talk with Appalachian slang, makes sense to someone.

  4. Language awareness When it comes to writing, I feel that I am a fly. I notice that when I am writing any topic, I sometimes have trouble trying to catch my ideas and put them on paper. I try to tackle this flaw and live the life of a spider.

Ruining a poem I ain’t ever had nothing as sweet as tea It is use to warsh down my mater But don’t use it to put out a far She has a jug of tea sitting by the winder I haven’t ever had anything as sweet as tea It is use to wash down my tomato Bu don’t use it to put out a fire She has a just of tea sitting by the window

  6. Ruining a poem- reflection I choose word that representing things that are frequently mispronounced in the Appalachian culture. While doing this activity, I definitely realized that words change in different dialects and cultures. When I read the first version of my poem, it doesn’t make any sense to me. However, it may make sense to certain readers, so you need to keep in mind that although it may not make sense to you, it may to someone else.

  7. Argument and form • If there was only one piece of chocolate left and I had to choose between a friend, prisoner, or the president, I would choose a friend. I feel that a prisoner is someone that wouldn’t deserve the last piece of chocolate, because they are in jail for committing a crime and not following the rules. The president I feel would come right after a friend, but I feel that my loyalty to a friend overrides giving the president the last piece of chocolate.

  8. Text Messages Friend: Hey girl! There is a creepy prisoner and the president at your house. I am craving chocolate! But there is only one piece left and apparently I am not the only one who is wanting it! Who can have it? Me: Hey lady! I can’t believe a prisoner and the president are at my house lol and you all want chocolate! I feel that you should have the last piece of chocolate, because you always there for me. Friend: But it’s the president!!! Me: I know.. I know.. But you are my friend and I know if I was craving chocolate you would give me that last piece! I mean it’s not like the president goes with me to get a pedi.

  9. When looking at the text messages and prose, there are a lot of differences. Writing formally like you do in the prose, you may use more mature words and dialect than you would in a text message. The world of text messaging is changing the way students write. I feel that the text message part of argument and form is the most interesting. Even though, text messaging isn’t the most formal way to write, it shows a lot of character and a person’s personality.

  10. Reading as a writer • The quote said by W. Somerset Maughan, “only mediocre writer is always at his best,” has a lot of meaning to me as writer. I feel that I am a mediocre writer. W. Somerset Maughan’s quote states that any mediocre writer is the best writer, and I couldn’t agree more. However, I do feel that I have a few things I could improve. The biggest improvement I could make in my writing is that to become more confident. I feel that I take a writing assignment and get very nervous and anxious about completing it. It is hard for me to put my thoughts on paper and for them to make sense.
