  3. What is Distance Education? • Distance Education can simply be defined as follows; Teaching and learning in which learning normally occurs in a different place from teaching.

  4. Theories of Distance Education Due to new technologies, globalization and new ideas about learning traditional education concept is chancing. There are three different ideas about how distance education is applied. • Independence and Autonomy • Industrialization • Interaction and Communication

  5. Independence and Autonomy • Each student take responsibility of his/her education. • Student should want little help from their teachers as much as possible. • Allow students to start, stop, and learn at their own pace. • Offer individuals more choices (more opportunities) in courses and learninbg methods. • Communication is obtained via different mediums.

  6. Independence and Autonomy(cont.) • Also Independence and Autonomy can be separated two parts; • 1)under the responsibility of teacher. • At teacher’s pace • 2)under the responsibility of student. • At student’s pace

  7. Industrilization • Also can be named as “Equality” • Everybody must be equal in terms of education so equality theorem of distance education lives. • Despite the differences in environment and conditions, the learning experience must be equal.

  8. Interactionand Communication • Traditional class style interactionand communication can be considered as a model. • Plans must be constructed according to the best interaction and communication between teacher/student. • Motivation is very important at learning process.
