  17. God Forgives Sin Because God ismerciful, gracious, longsuffering, full of goodness and truth He delights to forgive based on His righteous principles

  18. God Forgives Sin Micah 7 18 Who is a God like unto thee, that pardonethiniquity, And passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? He retaineth not his anger for ever, Because he delightethin mercy.

  19. God Forgives Sin • God forgives us with the purpose of leading us back to righteousness • There is an immeasurable gulf put between the sinner & his sins once they are forgiven

  20. God Forgives Sin Psalm 103 8 The Lordis merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. 9 He will not always chide: Neither will he keep his anger for ever. 10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. 11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, So great is his mercy toward them that fear him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, So far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

  21. God Forgives Sin Forgiveness is linked with God’s eternal purpose Numbers 14 18 The Lordis longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation. • Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now. • And the Lord said, I have pardoned according to thy word: 21 But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord.

  22. God Forgives Sin The guilty will not be pardoned Numbers 14 • Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice; 23 Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:

  23. God Forgives Sin Forgiveness is linked to God’s Memorial Name Psalm 25 6 Remember, O Lord, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; For they have been ever of old. 7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: According to thy mercy remember thou me For thy goodness’ sake, O Lord. 8 Good and upright is the Lord: Therefore will he teach sinners in the way.

  24. God Forgives Sin Psalm 25 9 The meek will he guide in judgment: And the meek will he teach his way. 10 All the paths of the Lordare mercy and truth Unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies. 11 For thy name’s sake, O Lord, Pardon mine iniquity; for it is great.

  25. God Forgives Sin God is telling us, ‘so long as a person or a nation aligns themselves with His character and purpose and name and devote themselves to being part of these He will forgive them’. That is the basis on which He forgives. He realizes they are weak and erring creatures given to repeated failure and that His forgiveness is needed to sustain them during a time of probation and transformation.

  26. God Forgives Sin For this reason He is ready and willing to forgive and delights in doing so which is consistent with His character in order to achieve His eternal purpose and to include them in His Name. It’s as if God is saying, ‘Here is my character which is full of mercy, grace, longsuffering, loving kindness and faithfulness; it’s who I am; it’s what I am’. Based on that character and that purpose He is willing to forgive us so that we can be part of that eternal glory.

  27. The Effect on Us • We are to bear God’s Name • Revelation 14:1 • We are to manifest God’s Character • Luke 6:36 • The result in our lives should be . . . • FORGIVENESS • based on God’s righteous principles • Matthew 6:14,15 • Ken Styles
