  2. Agenda

  3. CENELEC EN 50126 - The context(1/2) • Maintenance is part of the process for signalling applications, with SIL4 safety integrity level. • Phase 11 of the product life cycle is called “Operation and Maintenance”. • Phase 11 ensures the operation, maintenance and logistic support in order to maintain the system compliance to the RAMS requirements. This is the phase where “mobile diagnostic” is required. System Acceptance 10 Preference Monitoring Modification and Retrofit 12 13 Operation and Maintenance 11 De-commissioning and Disposal 14 Re-apply Lifecycle

  4. CENELEC EN 50126 - The context(2/2) • The collection of statistical data regarding functional and RAMS performances before and during the revenue service of the trackside is useful to optimize the maintenance process. • Diagnostic data are evaluated and used for planning the consequent maintenance actions.

  5. Agenda

  6. Maintenancefor ERTMS constituents ERTMS ERTMS - Level 1 TRACKSIDE CONSTITUENTS ERTMS - Level 2 TRACKSIDE CONSTITUENTS Maintenancedepends on the diagnosticsubsystemof the supplier. Maintenance (couldbe) quiteautomatic. LEU Maintenancedepending on the Localverificationofeachbalise. Maintenancecannotbeautomatic. 7. Sensible parameters to be tested for ERTMS • DIAGNOSTIC LEVELS BALISE • DIAGNOSTIC LEVELS GSM - R

  8. Agenda

  9. Diagnostic Vehicle “CAR ON TEchnology” • The vehicle has been conceived together with RFI for the requirements of diagnostic systems. Design and development of the diagnostic systems and railway vehicle have been completely implemented in MER MEC facilities. • Vehicle is used for trend analysis, predictive maintenance planning, trackside test commissioning. • Vehicle Informations: • Rank B • Clearance UIC 505-1 • Track gauge 1435 mm • Maximum speed 120 Km/h

  10. GSM-R Diagnostic System: measurements • SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE FOR VOICE QUALITY ASSESSMENT • SYSTEM EVENTS • Start call • Stop call • Handover complete • Handover failure • Dropped call • Failed call • No service

  11. GPRS Diagnostic System: measurements • SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE TO EVALUATE THE DATA CONNECTION PERFORMANCE • SYSTEM EVENTS • GPRS attach complete • GPRS detach complete • GPRS ra update complete • GPRS pdp activate complete • GPRS pdp deactivate complete • GPRS attach reject • GPRS ra update reject • GPRS pdp context reject • GPRS authentication andciphering reject

  12. GSM-R/GPRS Diagnostic System: application interfaces

  13. Balise Diagnostic: logical parameters measurement • Correct positioning on the track • Correct distance between balises within the same Balise Group (BG) • Correct distance between BGs • Functional coherence and consistency of the received telegram to the expected one for that balise • Balise Status • Silent balise • ‘Default Balise’ message, in order to detect a LEU failure or a break on the connection cable • ‘Default LEU’ message, in order to verify the correct functioning of the LEU • Number of received telegrams (air-gap index)

  14. Balise Diagnostic: physical parameters measurement • Radio Contact Diagram • Contact length • Axial symmetry • Compliance with the expected patterns • Central frequency value • FSK frequency deviation of modulation

  15. Italianexperience • The following information have been kindly provided from Rete Ferroviaria Italiana • Pre-operational phase carried out during 2010 • Full operation started in January 2011 • Operation Program main outcomes: • 6 complete measuring campaigns (six months timeframe) on the Italian Railway Track, about 11.000 Km • 80.000+ km of lines inspected • 108.000+ eurobalises checked The service performed by the technological CARONTE allows continuous monitoring of the railway lines and, through the detection of faults, provides indications for corrective maintenance of the equipment of wayside and then for Certification in exercise of the lines. The objective in the medium term is the study of evolution of the physical parameters of the balise before they reach the fault condition in order to contribute maintaining the efficiency of the equipment of wayside system mainly in terms of predictive maintenance.

  16. Future applicationsof ERTMS testingsystems • New CAR-ON-Technology vehicle for RFI in 2014 • Supply for diagnostic vehicle for SBB • New Generation of diagnostics Systems for High-Speed Lines

  17. Agenda

  18. Application in Funded Projects • The described technologies will be used in 2 funded projects SHIFT2RAIL TEN-T

  19. SHIFT2RAIL SHIFT2RAIL is the first joint R&DproposalofEuropeanRailwayIndustry, aiming at developingproductswith a fast market follow up; SHIFT2RAIL encompasses research, innovation and demonstration activities in all aspects of the rail system, amounting to nearly €1 Billion, co-financed by the EU and the private sector under the Horizon2020 budget across the 7 year lifespan of the initiative (estimated 2015-2022); • IP1 / Energy & Mass Efficient Technologies for High Capacity Green Trains • IP2 / Advance Traffic Management & Control Systems for the Improvement of Mainline & Urban Rail Capacity & Resilience • Position of MERMEC Group • SHIFT²RAIL MoU founder signatory • Participation to IP2, IP3, IP5. • From Jan 2014 participation to the Steering Committee • Zero on-site testing: the activity is devoted to laboratory tests, including  the full simulation of railway line condition, to minimize ERTMS field tests campaigns before to place the line in service • IP3 / The Cost efficient - High Capacity Green Infrastructure • IP4 / The IT Solutions for a Seamless Attractive Railway Transport System • IP5 / The Technologies for Sustainable & Attractive European Freight Transport

  20. ERTMS FundingOpportunity • BENEFICIARY • RETE FERROVIARIA ITALIANA • TECHNOLOGY PROVIDERS • MER MEC, ECM • ACCREDITED LABORATORIES • MULTITEL, ITALCERTIFER • ACTION • Off-site and field testing to support Italian ERTMS migration strategy • OBJECTIVES • The Action aims at performing joint off-site and field testing to influence technical specifications for the equipment of Wayside and On-Board Subsystem with ERTMS/ETCS Level 1 for the entire Italian Railway Network
