Foundation Apprenticeships Overview Foundation Apprenticeships are a new type of apprenticeship that helps senior school pupils in Scotland get qualified through work-based learning One of pupil’s subject choices in S5 Year 1: pupils typically two afternoons per week in college (Engineering: 3 afternoons) Year 2 offers an extended work placement, with pupils completing elements of a Modern Apprenticeship SCQF Level 6 – the same level as a Higher Attainment is measured through ongoing assessment in college and throughout the placement. There is no end of year exam. Travel is funded

  3. Who is it for? Foundation Apprenticeships are 2 year courses open to pupils entering 5th year. Pupils identified for an FA should be those wishing to continue until the end of S6 Teachers should be confident that the pupil is capable of working at SCQF Level 6 – the same level as a higher qualification Pupils must meet the entry requirements of the course All eligible school pupils regardless of post-school destination

  6. Foundation Apprenticeships are accepted as part of entrance criteria (an equivalent to one Higher) at all colleges and the following Universities in Scotland:
