  1. It’s Getting Hot in Here!by Mrs. Rohrbach

  2. Focus on the information need. • Select a topic - Global Warming • “Essential question.” • How can we stop Global Warming? • Formulate smaller, factual questions. • What are the effects of global warming? • What are some of the causes? • What do some experts recommend to stop the effects of global warming?

  3. Investigate resources to look for the answers. • Print – (Book from Destiny Quest) • Title:An inconvenient truth : the crisis of global warming by Al Gore • Online – (One website) • http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/ • People – (Name one person and explain why they are an expert) • Mrs. O’Donnell – Biology Teacher at ATC

  4. Note and evaluate the facts. Take notes that answer your 3 factual questions: • “Since pre-industrial times, atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O) have climbed by over 36 percent, 148 percent, and 18 percent, respectively.” • “Human activities (principally, the burning of fossil fuels and changes in land use) are the primary cause.” • “Replace the conventional bulbs in your 5 most frequently used light fixtures with bulbs that have the ENERGY STAR.”

  5. Develop information into knowledge for presentation. Write the answer to your essential question in ONE paragraph. Use your notes, but paraphrase! Include an internal citation. Global warming, or climate change, is caused by the actions of people who over-use fossil fuels. This in turn causes elevated levels of carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. At home, we can use “Energy Star” qualified products, seal and insulate our homes, and recycle as much as possible (Climate Change) .

  6. Score your presentation and search process. Answer these questions: 1. Which steps of the FINDS process were you able to do well and which steps were more difficult and/or confusing? Explain. 2. How can you improve your research skills? Give specific examples.
