  1. LEED™ Certification

  2. U.S. Green Building Council LEED Certification • Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design • Authored by the U.S. Green Building Council • Non-Profit Coalition Promoting the Understanding, Development and Implementation of Green Buildings (www.usgbc.org) • The Recognized Standard for Green Buildings

  3. U.S. Green Building Council LEED Certification • Evaluates Environmental Performance From a Whole Building Perspective Over a Building’s Life Cycle • Uses a Point Rating System • Up to 69 Points Maximum • Levels Include LEED Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze

  4. LEED Rating Categories • Sustainable Sites • Water Efficiency • Energy and Atmosphere • Materials and Resources • Indoor Environmental Quality • Innovation and Design Process

  5. One of America’s FirstLEED - Certified Buildings Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection South Central Regional Headquarters, Harrisburg, PA

  6. USGBC - LEED Certification Site Credit 7 • Landscape and Exterior Design to Reduce Heat Island: 1-2 Points • Use Energy Star Roof Compliant, High Reflective and Low Emissivity Roofing (Initial .65 and Three Year Aged Reflectance of at Least .50) When Tested With ASTM E-408 for at Least 75% of the Roof Surface OR Install a “Green” (Vegetated) Roof for at Least 50% of the Roof Area.

  7. USGBC - LEED Certification Site Credit 6 • Storm Water Management: 1-2 Points • No Net Increase in the Rate or Quantity of Storm Water Run-off From Existing to Developed Conditions; OR, if Existing Imperviousness is Greater then 50%, Implement a Storm Water Management Plan That Results in a 25% Decrease in the Rate and Quantity of Storm Water Run-off (Green/Vegetated Roofs)

  8. USGBC - LEED Certification Materials Credit 4 • Recycled Content • Specify a Minimum of 25% of Building Materials That Contain in Aggregate a Minimum Weighted Average of 20% Post-Consumer Recycled Content Material, OR, a Minimum Weighted Average of 40% Post-industrial Recycled Content Material: 1 Point • Specify an Additional Minimum of 25% (50% Total) of Building Materials That Contain in Aggregate, a Minimum Weighted Average of 20% Post-Consumer Recycled Content Material, OR, a Minimum Weighted Average of 40% Post-industrial Recycled Content Material: 1 Point

  9. Converting Low Slope Roof Areas to Standing Seam Metal

  10. Advantages • Improves Aesthetics of Facility • Retrofit can be Installed Directly Over Existing Roof System • Eliminates cost of removal of existing roof • Building remains watertight • Interior of facility never exposed to elements of weather

  11. Advantages • Low Life Cycle Cost • Use of Lightweight Framing System Avoids Load Issues • Structural analysis completed before design • System engineered to assure excellent resistance to negative wind uplift pressures

  30. Design Build Delivery Method

  31. Trend in Commercial Roofing • The Design Build Delivery Method • The Design Build Process Gives an Owner One Single Point of Contact • Turn Key Delivery From Architectural and Engineering Design Through The Final Punch List

  32. Trend in Commercial Roofing • Advantages of Design Build Process • Single Source Accountability • Design Build Firm is responsible for all aspects of the project • Accelerates Completion Dates • Specifications/Drawing completed in 10-14 days • Optimizes Project Efficiencies • Other trades can be included in the process

  33. Trend in Commercial Roofing • Eliminates Change Orders and Cost Overruns • Firm price is determined at the onset of the project • Eliminates Re-Designs • Design-Builder is 100% accountable for all outcomes • Guarantees Specified Performance • Design-Builder guarantees project is delivered on time and in budget
