We will start a review session today to begin helping us get into the right mind set for writing!

  3. Types of writing… • There are 4 possible types of prompts that you could receive! They are the following: • Narrative – focuses on relating a sequence of events and actions (you are the storyteller!) • Expository – focuses on explaining something (you are the expert!) • Persuasive – you are trying to convince or inspire the reader to hold a certain opinion or take a specific action • Reflective – focuses on the writer’s individual experience with certain conditions or situations (you are reflecting on something that has happened to you and explaining how your experience might help others.

  4. Types of writing… • We are going to focus today on the first two types of writing that are Narrative and Expository. • Let’s discuss the narrative first: Turn to page 194 in the text. Read through the prompt given! Then, get out a sheet of paper! • Now, turn to page 190 – let’s read through the tips and apply the tips to our prompt! • Then, let’s plan out our “essay” as if we were getting ready to write this for our EOI test. • Now, turn to page 202 and read the prompt! Then, we will turn to page 198 and apply the steps for an expository essay and plan it out!
