Rice did come to South Carolina from the island of Madagascar off the coast of Africa Dr. Henry Woodward did live with the Indians and explore the interior of South Carolina He was held captive by pirates before he escaped He did become the first man to plant rice in South Carolina, according to most sources Carolina Gold was known as the finest and most delicious rice in the world The rest of the story is what makes it so interesting
