  • Opened it’s doors in 1911 in Chicago Heights, IL with a 50 bed facility

  • 1926 it doubles in size to 132 beds

  • 1960 an addition was added bringing the bed total to 250

  • 1965 the original structure was raised and after the remodeling the hospital had 188 total beds


  • 1977 Cancer Care Center opened

  • By 1984 the hospital encompassed a square block and had grown to a total bed size of 231

  • In January of 2000 St. James acquired the Olympia Fields site increasing the number of beds to over 350 for the two campuses combined


  • Since the merger, the hospital has added a Heart and Vascular Institute, Comprehensive Cancer Institute, and Health and Wellness Institute

  • Presently St. James is a two-campus healthcare delivery system that today serves a population of more than 550,000 in the far south suburbs of Chicago
